My computer’s head phone jack is officially shot (so says the Mac store), so I have had to switch up some of my routine in the studio.  This week my show sounds a little more like the shows of old, though I was still unable to use the comp.  Also, I found this track listing to be a little different than normal… but that’s a good thing.

Almost finished reading this here story.  It’s inspiring, truly.  Eustice Conway embodies what we are missing in this world. I highly recommend the read.

Project Junkyard Greenhouse is underway.  I will be video-documenting the process as well, and will share some updates in due time.  Edible plants underway so far are multiple tomato varieties, strawberries, and a variety of herbs.  We are pumped to get the greenhouse in so we have the space for greens, peppers, beans, eggplant, cucumber, and some more tomatoes.  

So I am slightly delayed in my reporting about this on The Chronicles. I started a taxi service, and I named it The Grateful Cab Company LLC.  It took some time to get things up and running, and the details are still getting ironed out, but I am pumped to have The Grateful Cab in operations.  Thanks to all those that have helped me in this process.  Servicing Jackson Hole and the surrounding areas and doing it with the greatest band of all time backing us! So I come cruisin up on my bike the other afternoon to Murphy (my dog) barking his head off.  Something was off.  Murph almost never barks, and certainly never continuously howling like this.  As I come into view, its pretty immediately obvious as to what the commotion was all about. There’s this moose (the one you see above) slowly making its way down the creek while munching on some buds on the trees.  The moose could not have cared less that some dumbass Golden Retriever was howling not ten feet away on the bank. Completely at ease.  So I got the mutt inside at went to snap a pic.  We hadn’t spotted a moose yet in our stretch of creek, being as close to town as we are, though we had heard they’d show their faces from time to time.  I snatched a shot and proceeded to go chill inside and leave the thing to peace, after all it had been so patient with Murph for who-knows-how-long while I was out.  Before I went inside I watched the moose climb up the opposite bank of the creek, just past the beaver and muskrat’s dwelling that lies right across the water from our cabin.  I assumed it was an attempt to skirt the small bridge that this downriver escapade had brought upon her.  Not ten minutes passed before my landlord knocked on the door.  He proceeded to inform us that some moose had just had a baby in the yard, that is of course, this same moose! Wow, I didn’t see that coming.

Living on this little creek now for a year I have witnessed all sorts life come and go.  I have come to regard this space as my Walden Pond, a place of vast reflection and education.  I have watched the seasons come and go now and I have watched the creatures do the same.  I can see the subtleties in this space, and they really amaze me to no end.  This stretch of creek has become very very special to me.  The other afternoon, as this whole story unfolded, I couldn’t help but find myself deep in the moment, to see myself immersed in this natural world around me.  There was a freshness in the air, the birds sang, the creek ran, the ducks roamed in pairs, and the sun shown.  As I stepped outside again I could literally feel the new life in the breeze. I stood and took it all in. Inhaled, exhaled. It was a moment of true inner and outer peace. I find it hard to put to words.

This world is a beautiful and a wonderful place. Moments like these can grab you and realign you.  They ground you.  The moment passes in real time but stays with you for hours, days, years. Relish these moments on your dog people, relish.

Happy Birthday Dad, and Dylan!

Today, May 24, is the birthday of some pretty special people in my life, my father being the most prominent of them.  What I found out today, however, was that it is the birthday of Bob Dylan as well.  Bob Dylan has had a pretty big impact on me over the years, and I venture to say I may have never started writing had it not been for his lyrical prowess.  How in all my years I have never put together that my father and BobbyD have the same birthday is beyond me. I have been listening to Dylan for a long time now at above average levels, I read his book, hell, I even took a seminar class on him in college, but never did I make this connection.  When I found this out halfway through my radio show this morning it quickly became imperative that I dedicate the rest of the show to the legend. Unfortunately, with all sorts of things beyond my tech understanding going on with the systems at the station, my show did not record (I DO KNOW it was not for lack of my pressing record). Shame, I thought it was a pretty good mix of tunes.  I also got to play an extra half hour at the end of my regularly scheduled block for some Dylan tribute which was fun.
